Bill Naughton - Alfie Darling - First Edition Book 1970 [with] Rare EMI
Bill Naughton - Alfie Darling - First Edition Book 1970 [with] Rare EMI Campaign Book for the Movie 1973
A first edition, first printing of Alfie Darling published by Macgibbon Kee in 1970. A very good book with a little spotting and no inscriptions in like neatly clipped wrapper. Comes complete with the Campaign Book for the 1973 film, starring Alan Price and Joan Collins. Alfie Darling, Bill Naughtons 1970 sequel to Alfie, continues the narrative of the eponymous Cockney womanizer. Now a long-distance truck driver, Alfie narrates his continued philandering while driving across Britain and Europe. The novel introduces Abby, a sophisticated magazine editor who challenges his misogynistic views, leading to a surprising, genuine emotional attachment. The 1975 film adaptation starred musician Alan Price as Alfie (replacing Michael Caine). It mirrors the novels plot but is particularly noted for its stark, tragic ending where Abby dies in a plane crash, forcing Alfie to confront the emptiness of his self-absorbed life. The film was less successful than its predecessor.
