In full: �Yours very faithfully James Crichton Browne� James Crichton-Browne (1840�1938) was a British psychiatrist, neurologist, and medical reformer. He was superintendent of the West Riding Lunatic Asylum, where he advanced scientific study of mental illness. Crichton-Browne collaborated with Charles Darwin, providing research that influenced Darwin�s work on human emotion. He later became Lord Chancellor�s Visitor in Lunacy. A prolific writer and lecturer, he helped modernise Victorian approaches to psychiatry and neurological medicine.
