JOHNSON, Ben. Sports Illustrated. “Busted!” — Signed Cover. Framed Display.
Sports Illustrated, 3 October 1988. A striking signed cover of Sports Illustrated, featuring the prominent headline “BUSTED!” beneath the banner “Scandal in Seoul”. Boldly signed “Ben Johnson” in black marker to the right of the central sporting image, the autograph standing out clearly against the blue background. The issue records the scandal surrounding the 1988 Seoul Olympics, where Johnson was stripped of his 100 metres gold medal after testing positive for the banned steroid stanozolol. The juxtaposition of his signature with the cover announcing his own sporting downfall gives this piece a particularly compelling association. Attractively presented within a broad cream mount, with a contrasting black inner slip and a substantial pale wood frame, glazed. An arresting display combining sporting history, magazine design and autograph collecting. Condition: Very good overall. The signature is bold and clearly legible, and the visible cover, mount and frame present well. Comes with a Certificate of Authenticity.
