One-page autograph letter signed ‘William Golding’, dated 2 January 1968, discussing the initial rejection of Lord of the Flies. Written in ink, with the novel’s title underlined, and signed in full beneath ‘Yours sincerely’.

Golding writes: ‘Lord of the Flies went to a number of publishers before Faber took it but I can’t remember how many. I’ve had no similar trouble since.’

Original horizontal mailing folds and light toning. Mounted in a white frame, with minor frame wear.

A particularly engaging literary letter, in which Golding reflects directly on the publishing history of his best-known novel.
